Okay, so there was a huge problem with the pattern and how the front of the coat looked. I was so stressed over this I was freaking out. Then we thought the new fabric I got for the coat was a shade darker. The scythe was too heavy, we tore it apart and tried re-doing it in cardboard only but the edges were gaped and messy. There was no way to make clean edges to paint and smooth it down.
In one day we fixed all three problems.
CRISIS AVERTED!!!!
The fabric is in fact the correct fabric. My fiance and I took the pieces outside and they matched. I found both receipts and the name and fabric numbers matched. I didn't goof and waste money, thank goodness. So that was an easy fix. It helped that I had plenty left to fix the next issue.
I found a piece from the other coat pattern I have. My mom and I shortened it and cut it out. I pinned it to the other pieces and it fit perfectly! It looks so much better I really am happy with it. Tomorrow I am going to sew it on the top and see how it looks all sewn on. After this I can fix the collar, start on the ruffles and do the finishing touches (trim and attach the roses and ribbon.)
The scythe. We talked it over with my father and decided to go with EVA foam. WHY DIDN'T I DO THIS SOONER! We could have saved a lot of money...My dad will be cutting the foam shape out tomorrow with his special air blade saw thing. The foam will be easy to make clean edges. I can easily sand out the details, gesso, paint and gloss it.
I tried Alice's dress on with my strapless bra I got today, it fits perfectly. I am going to add ruffles on the back of the dress as it goes down too low for comfort in the back. The sleeves are too short and too tight, it hurts a bit. So I am going to go in and sew new ones. This way I can feel more comfortable while wearing for long periods of time. But I wont do this until after I am 100% done with the coat. Luckily I still have a lot of taffeta left over so I can easily re-make the sleeves in a day or two. I really want to feel comfortable and look good for my size so having something too tight or short is always a no-no.
I got three packages today.
~My undergarment haul from Walmart (Bra, waist clincher, and shorts.)
~Fabric roses
~Gloves
The gloves are great. They are tight and need to be stretched out a bit. They do over my elbows without making my arms puff out. I could not add the ruffles on the top so I won't be adding them The top got too heavy and folded over. It look bad.
The fabric roses are a bit flat but still work and look very nice. The thing I like best about these roses, besides the color and how easy it is to cut them, is the fact these will be much easier to wash. If I got the big ribbon ones, they wouldn't wash as easily as these ones do. I always keep washing in mind because of my fiance is horrible at spilling things, so washing is a must with his costumes.
The only issue with my Walmat haul was that the shorts are a bit too big but I did order like...two sizes too big. They fit and are so comfortable. They'll be great for under the kimono and Alice's dress.
There are about six packages left to come.
