Bunnies

Thinking about what props to bring with Lacie and Levi and I think making the bunnies (B rabbit and Will's rabbit) would be so cute to carry around since they are they're daughter's toys. Since the design is fairly simple I think (If I have time, and we have finished all four new cosplays) that I'll be making these, two for ourselves and an extra Will bunny for our friend.

Aren't they cute?

2013

After talking with my friend and fellow cosplayer, who we will be rooming with this year at Sakura-con, I've decided to take on a second cosplay to make for our next con in March. But only if I can finish both TB cosplays within a reasonable time. Five months until the con, if I can finish a cosplay, props and all with three weeks I'll have plenty of time to start on an extra project. Thank goodness I have a job now! For a while now I've been wanting to take a break from Sharon and Break (Pandora Hearts) to cosplay another set of characters from the same series. While talking with my friend I brought up the fact I want to do Lacie. I said for Kumori-con 2013 but now that I've found a really good pattern for Lacie's purple and black dress I think I'll take on the challenge of bringing two, fully finished costumes to Sakura-con.

Since Sakura's outfit isn't a good cosplay to wear for long periods of time I think sharing that day with Lacie would be amazing. Plus this would limit my wear of pink (YAY). Sharon's wig is really bad and needs to be replaced but I'm having issues finding one that is of a good price and is the right color so this will help give me a break from that beast. Although Lacie's wig will be worse (I'm just happy it doesn't have a ponytail clip on!) since it will go all the way to my behind or longer since I'm short.

But wait!

I always cosplay couples/pairings with my fiance, who is he going to be? Levi of course! Levi is one of the previous Glens. I love his look, his outfit and character a lot, he's rather interesting and my fiance has agreed to take Levi's role on. He's still catching up in Pandora Hearts but he's read Levi's chapters and likes him, reminds him of Break so we're going to take on Levi and Lacie (Alice's and Will's parents) and will be hopefully bringing them to Sakura-con. But if they aren't done or I'm not pleased with how they turn out, we'll be bringing them to Kumori-con later on in the year.

We already have a Will of the Abyss! That's my friend as mentioned above. She has an awesome Will cosplay she's been bringing to Kumori-con for a while now and since we invited her to Sakura-con after we decided not to go with other people, we are super excited to bring her to her first Sakura-con! So I'm going to try my hardest to whip out four cosplays within five months. It sounds kind of crazy but I think I'll be able to do so if I start soon.  I'm really excited to bring my friend along to Seattle next year for Sakura. Our other guests have been treating us pretty coldly lately and we just didn't feel comfortable spending so much time with them when they act this way, so instead of spending our time alone we invited our friend since she has never gone and wanted to go really badly. I think it's a better choice, she's more mature, knows us pretty well from high school, and is very social. Just what we need!

This is what I'm guessing our days will be like...

Day 0. Trinity Blood (Abel and Caterina)
Day 1. Pandora Hearts (Lacie and Levi or Sharon and Break)
Day 2. Tsubasa/Trinity Blood
Day 3. Trinity Blood or full lolita

I'm spoiling myself and buying a Baby the Stars Shine Bright dress and maybe a coat or something for myself once I get paid, so I'll be wearing that during down time, day zero (maybe) and day three. Not sure just yet. But we will see in the up-coming months how far along our cosplays are.

First two that will be worked on will be Trinity Blood. I'm very excited to be cosplaying from one of my favorite mangas. I'm going to take my time making these costumes, adding in the small details that I love so much. The petticoat under Caterina's dress will be hand-made by me, that includes the lace detailing. I'll be able to try new techniques while making these costumes, I'm seeing it as a skill building experiment, one step closer to finally compelteing my two dream cosplays, Seth Nightlord and Ozma from Return to Oz. Those costumes have so much details I'm not ready to take on something like that just yet. So while I'm still learning I'm using these costumes to build my skills for later. Although each will be made with plenty of excitement towards wearing the costumes.

Now I'm going to go write for a little bit while I wait for my parents to be ready to leave, so we can go get new cell phones. I've never ha a cellphone...I'm excited!

Up-coming cosplay projects

Next con:
December 29th (Mini con)- Newcon
March 29-31st -Sakura-con

Here I am again posting another update after I've had a wonderful conversation about cosplay. I'm just going to make this quick and to the point. Pictures and a little about the project. I really want to go play the Sims 3 Seasons and start writing so I'll be cutting it short. Sorry.

Characters that are being made now for Sakura....

Abel and "Young" Caterina
(Front people wearing white.)

Abel-0% (Will be starting soon)
Caterina-1% (Started on her prop)

First hand-made costumes!

Besides Abel and Caterina, we will be bringing Sharon and Break (Pandora Hearts) and Sakura and Syaoran (Tsubasa.) Sakura and Caterina will be new to Sakura-con for me. I'm very excited but am changing a few things. Sakura's skirt will now have a underskirt/hoop skirt underneth so it's not so flat looking. Hopefully that helps with having to hold it when I walk. For down time I'll either be in my Gloomy Bear kigurmi (Most likely late night/evenings) or my BTSSB lolita dress <---- I'll be wearing that to Newcon too.

And now to the new cosplay.

It's been decided that we will give Sharon and Break a little break (Although we might wear them for a few hours) and will be making Lacie and Levi, the Alices' parents in Pandora Hearts. I already have a Will joining us so it'll be so much fun walking around with my "daughter" during the con.

Lacie! I'm tired of wearing pink. I don't even like Pink that much. So wearing a purple (My favorite color) and black gown will be a much needed break. Plus Lacie is a bit...well twisted. I like darker characters. She should be very much fun to cosplay

Levi! I freaking love what he's wearing. And that hair....Oh goodness. His character isn't explained much. He's only shown in a few scenes in the manga but I liked him right off the bat. I think I just have a thing for long haired guys in manga. Idk. But my fiance agreed to cosplay him so I can't wait! He's going to be so happy not to have Emily ridding on his shoulder too!

Those two will be for Kumori-con 2013 which is later in the year after Sakura. Not sure what our plans are then but I'll keep this blog updated about it as that time gets near. And of course all about making the outfits as posted above. I think I'll make the two bunnies to go along with our cosplays! XD

For Sakura-con I was thinking of doing another set of costumes but we are still unsure if we will have time or not. Depending on money and on how quickly the TB costumes get done, I may make two outfits from Bizenghast, Dinah and Vincent. Either that or save them for Kumori-con next year. Idk...

Up-coming Review

Hello cosplay blog! I've been busy with writing, dealing with some very strange job issues (Still WAITING to start.) and am recovering from a bad migraine and cold. But I'm here to give a little update and explain what's to come. Since it's not con season right now and I haven't  done much cosplay wise lately I'm going to go ahead and post a review!

I'll be reviewing my new (used) 3ds! Since I know a lot of cosplayers love the DS systems. As well as my new Harvest Moon game for the 3ds! These wont be posted today but I'll be starting them very soon. I want to add pictures so it may be a few days before they are posted.

Update (Pictures!)

Finally. I know right? I finally got a chance to take a quick picture of my rosary prop. The darn camera was dying so they aren't very good but hey, I got a picture! This prop is created of three layers. But before I explain what and how I created it, here is the picture.
Caterina's rosary cross

This has three layers to it. I haven't made such a prop before so this was my first time exploring how to do so. I'll explain each layer and what product I used for it. Sadly I don't have pictures of each layer because I got bored and kept working on it. Which is something I don't normally do.

Layer one- Wire armature
This was made from florist wire which is not coated wire. It's easy to bend and twist. But has sharp edges. It's also easy to cut and you don't need fancy wire cutters to do so. It's very thin. I used the same wire to make my sphere prop as mentioned before (As pictured below) I started by making the longest part (The part that goes straight down first by deciding on a length (Around three inches I believe.) I bent the wire so it had two pieces, one rounded and connected at the end and cut it. Then starting from the bottom that was not connected I started to twist another piece of wire around that. I kept doing that through the prop as well as for the part that goes across. The squares were done last and I used the same method. The armature was firm and all connected.

Layer Two- Oven-Bake clay

I used Sculpey brand clay. This is normally the cheapest, easiest to find clay. It gets VERY soft when kneed and I found it rather hard to make thick because of that. This part was easy. I had to mold the clay around the armature. After that was down I smoothed it out the best I could then popped it into the oven for ten minutes. I let it cool down for a few hours then later that night started on layer three.

Layer Three- Model Magic

This clay has been my got to clay. It's easy to work with, non-messy, molds nicely and dries fairly quickly. It's an air dry clay and is very soft and fluffy. I used it for my sphere prop as well. I covered the cross in MM clay to make it thicker and give it more character. It was a bit tricky because the clay I have is a bit too dried out but I managed to get it done. It does have a few imperfections but once it's painted and coated with resin you wont see them.

Now I need to...

  • Paint it silver (Could take up to four layers)
  • Paint on varnish
  • Cover with ice resin (Clear resin)
  • Decorate while resin is still wet (Sparkly things, fake pearls, ect.)
  • Start building the chain.
